RECYCLING BOTTLES AND CANS
This is an easy fundraiser that all the kids can participate in. This will be an ongoing weekly collection that Nancy McCarron and Eileen Winkler will coordinate.
Pick a block or two that is near your home. Send an email to winklere@verizon.net with the names of the streets you would like to collect from. Please make sure to send an email, we want to ensure that we don’t have a duplication of efforts. If the street that you have chosen is already assigned, we will choose another street near your home.
At the beginning of each week, print and deliver the flyer to the houses on the block you have been assigned, asking for the resident to donate their deposit cans and bottles to WantaghSOS. Before printing the flyer, place the date and time that you will be picking up the donation, preferably before recycling day. You can also place your name and phone number on the flyer in case the resident would like to call you and ask for a special pickup.

Collect the bottles and cans on the designated date from the houses. Then, either have someone take you to the store where you can cash in the bottles and cans, or if you are unable to get to the store, call Nancy McCarron or Eileen Winkler to pick them up from your home.
The proceeds that you collect can be donated a number of ways: You can have a parent write a check in the amount th at you have collected, and mail the check to Wantagh SOS. You can drop off the money you have collected to either Nancy McCarron or Eileen Winkler. If you are unable to do either of these, you can call Eileen or Nancy to pick up the money.
Our kids collected from three streets last week, and so far we have $125.00 in donations. If we can get all the kids involved with this, we could collect so much more. And, the residents seem very receptive to this idea, it is an easy way for everyone to get involved, and allows people in the community who don’t have the money to donate to feel like they can contribute in other ways.
